Quiet time!

Hello! i just came back from church leader's retreat!!!
yeah! it was fun! the second day only...
However, i recieve several problems in relationships as well as me being a leader....
Pray that i will not give up while facing all these emotional problems, but to grow from it!
For now, i just feel like the whole world is tumbling over me...i didn't realise that i have so many expectations to meet, so many stresses...even in church...i thought church is suppose to be a place of taking a break from the outside world, just to worship God...just feel like giving up and taking a break from church and from serving God...i just feel terrible on the inside...

Anyways, today i wanna talk about quiet time.
Quiet time is something that my church always emphasize on and stressing on the importance of quiet time...
For all those who do not know what is quiet time, it is a time whereby you meditate on God's word as you read the bible or any other christian material...
It is a time being placed aside for God and God only...to communicate with God and to seek for God's will in your life...
It is a time of focus on God...
what i realise is that there are so many thousand things going on in our lives that we always complain that time is not enough...
So, even i as a christian may sometimes not do my quiet time cause i spend my time doing something else like watching tv, using the com...then by the time i wanna do quiet time, i already lose the focus and it gets too tiring and sleepy for me to do it already..

There was once recently, i asked Jondave from like young adults ministry whether he got do qt annot, the answer that he gave me was that he didn't really do much cause he got several tests this week...
i told him how important qt is regarding one's spiritual walk with God and to bond with him...
telling him that if your really love God, just like if you love someone, you would want to talk to the person like everyday...
morever, it is like taking like 10 to 15 min of your time like 24 hours for God!

He taught me something new...
He say that doing qt is just like a secondary factor...it is not as impt as living out your life as a christian..
He asked me,' How are you assured of your salvation?'
And said that ' not all who call Jesus as lord will enter the kingdom of God.'
I answered...it is when you take up the cross and follow Jesus..it is when you let God's word to master you and to really live out a Godly life!
he say that qt is suppose to be part of our life as a christian...
And that, you are actually doing qt when you spend time with God...it can be on the bus reading the bible and praying, when you are with your friends and talking to God...etc. Anywhere at any time, when you worship God...
God deserves more than just 10 to 15 min of your time...
If you think it this way, you wouldn't be bounded with the question of whether you have done the 15 min of qt cause qt is actually limitless!!
Doing qt is good...if you can do then it is better...but spending that 15 min of your time with God is not the main focus...

I started to think about it and accept the fact that qt is not as important as i think it is...
I told this to my best friend leng shan...
Her opinion is that she do not want to feel so comfortable...
Lets just say you just pray and talk to God when you are free...or when you just think of him like on the bus or even walking back home....she wants to get out of her comfort zone to serve God...

I also told this to cheryl, my senior cum friend from church..
I told her this during the church leader's retreat..
Her reply was that qt is something that is really impt!
why?
she say that qt is a time whereby you really sit down and meditate on God's word and listen to what he has to say to you...
Not whether you think about him annot...
It is a time that you schedule in your day specially for him..cause he is special..
It is a time of focus whereby you step out of your comfort zone for him...
cause it is difficult to focus like on the bus or when you are with your friends even though you may be praying...
Morever, if you really love God, you would want to do something for him..
Since we are children of God, and we take Jesus as our example to lead our lives according to, we should follow his way of praying and talking to God...
Going to a quiet place without anyone to look at you doing it, close the door and do it...
It is a special time that you and God share...only you and God...

So, rmb to do your quiet time.
Just start out with like 10 min of your time...
I am sure that as you grow in God, the time spent with God will be lengthened as one hunger and thirst for more of God's word...
Jia you!!!

God Bless you!!

Hey,

While it is true that QT is spending time with God, one must remember that our faith is built on the word of God, because we cannot base it on feelings, thoughts or emotions; the human person as a whole is too shallow for us to base our faith on any of that.

I would not go as far to say that QT is secondary to living your life out as a Christian, because in order to do it, your foundation for your faith goes back to reading the word of God.

So at the end of the day, I think you realise that QT is more than just talking to God or praying on the way to school; it is exclusive time with God.

It may come in the form of worship, prayer, reading the word, or a combination of all of them, but ultimately, it is exclusive time with God.

hey!

for me i would agree that QT would be to set aside time for God alone in a room, it's not merely just thinking of Him; rather it's talking/worshipping/hearingGod and having the close relationship that God desires.

apart from weekly church services, where we worship, talk and praise God, a Christian would only start to grow daily when he/she does QT with God alone by reading His word, and worshipping Him. It's the desire of heart to want to know God more and more each day during QT, where distractions are cut out and the focus should be on Him alone.

through this, we will start to mature as Christians, living a holy and righteous life that pleases God and a life that is yielded to His agenda. =)
